European imperialism happened in the 19th and 20th century. Most of Europe was fighting for colonies in Africa and India. Imperialism was a result of the Industrial Revolution, because the countries needed more raw resources. The Europeans believed that they were superior because they had more advanced technology. European nations had a meeting to decide how to split up Africa so that there was no fighting. Britain helped stabilize India’s infrastructure and economy. The United States were against imperialism but acquired some of their own colonies after they won the Spanish-American War.
